Kolkata: Six junior doctors, including three female junior doctors, started their fast unto death hunger strike on Saturday night against the rape and murder of a PG doctor of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital. The senior doctors will sit for relay hunger strikes along with junior doctors from tomorrow. "We will sit on a hunger strike from tomorrow and we stand in solidarity with the junior doctors who are doing fast unto death," Subarna Goswami, a senior doctor, said."If there is any harm caused towards them, the state government will have to take responsibility. The government has not done anything to meet their demands," another senior doctor said. The junior doctors announced last evening to continue with their protests against the rape and murder case by continuing with the medical services for the patients and start fast unto death agitation until their demands are met.For the sake of transparency of their hunger strike, CCTV machines will be installed at the hunger strike venue, and the junior doctors want the common people to come and know about their agitation. "We are giving our services to the patients. But we will not be consuming food," said a WBJDF representative.
